Executive Summary

U.S. Blockade Enforcement: U.S. forces continue to actively enforce the naval blockade of Iran in the Indian Ocean. The Botswana-flagged VLCC Skywave was seized off the western Malaysian coast, reportedly carrying over one million barrels of Iranian oil. This marks the third such seizure following the interceptions of tankers Majestic X and Tifani in April, signalling a sustained and expanding enforcement campaign.
Resurgent Piracy Threat off Somalia: The piracy threat off the Somali coast remains active. The MSCIO reported a Pirate Action Group mobilising near Bosaso, with unconfirmed reports suggesting an intention to hijack a merchant vessel. This is compounded by two separate suspicious approaches against tankers north and west of Socotra, both repelled by Armed Security Teams.
Europe
War Spillover Continues: Merchant shipping in the Black Sea remains exposed to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict. A Marshall Islands-flagged bulk carrier was struck by an unknown projectile whilst transiting towards Pivdennyi port, Odessa, resulting in an onboard fire that was successfully extinguished by the crew.

Operational Guidance
Operators should:
Avoid transiting to or from Iranian ports and ensure full compliance with CENTCOM blockade directives to avoid interception or seizure.
Maintain high vigilance in the Gulf of Oman, Strait of Hormuz and Indian Ocean, monitoring for UAVs, projectiles, and naval vessels.
Contact U.S. naval forces on channel 16 when approaching the Strait of Hormuz.
Transit the Internationally Recommended Transit Corridor in the Gulf of Aden and adhere to BMP-MS guidelines when operating off Somalia.
Maintain Armed Security Teams on readiness when transiting high-risk areas near Socotra and the Horn of Africa.
Strengthen onboard fire prevention and damage control readiness, ensuring crew are drilled and equipment is operational.
Report all suspicious activity immediately to UKMTO, MSCIO, and relevant maritime authorities.
Monitor AIS, radar, and NAVWARNs for anomalies and updates.
