Another vessel was struck in the Persian Gulf, as the Hormuz Crisis continues. Meanwhile, a second hijacking took place of a Dhow off the Somali coast, which portrays a deliberate strategy by Somali Pirate Groups to take advantage of regional insecurity.

Europe

Russia and Ukraine continue to trade strikes on port infrastructure. Ukraine reportedly launched a mass UAV strike on Novorossiysk targeting oil terminals and naval assets, as well as a follow-up strike on Russia's last operational Ro-Ro vessel in the Kerch Strait. Simultaneously, Russia struck the port and logistical infrastructure in Izmail, Ukraine.

Southeast Asia

A bulk carrier reported an attempted robbery by armed individuals who were sighted in the engine room. When the crew sounded the alarm and initiated the search, the perpetrators had already left, and nothing was reported to be stolen.

Key Incidents by Region

Indian Ocean

10 April 2026

A major fire was reported aboard the bulk carrier Gold Autumn while transiting the Arabian Sea en route to Oman. Pakistani maritime authorities initiated a coordinated search and rescue response, supported by a naval asset conducting firefighting and evacuation operations. All crew members were safely rescued and transferred ashore, with the fire subsequently brought under control and damage assessment conducted.

9 April 2026

The MSCIO reports the hijacking of a dhow by suspected pirates in the vicinity of Bargal, with the vessel likely intended for use as a mothership to support extended piracy operations. The perpetrators are reportedly equipped with military-style uniforms and are actively conducting VHF communications with nearby vessels, indicating a coordinated attempt to identify and target shipping. Maritime traffic in the region has been advised to avoid transit routes between the Horn of Africa and Socotra Island. Operation Atalanta has located the vessel and is monitoring the situation, though the threat environment remains elevated pending further developments.

7 April 2026

The UKMTO reports that a container vessel was struck by an unidentified projectile while operating south of Kish Island, with exact coordinates unconfirmed. The impact caused damage above the waterline, indicating a direct strike rather than a near-miss event. All crew were reported safe, with no environmental damage observed. The incident is currently under investigation.

Europe

8 April 2026

Open-source reporting indicates a UAV strike targeting port infrastructure in Izmail port, with limited clarity on timing and specific impact points. The attack reportedly caused fires in warehouse facilities, which were subsequently contained by emergency services. no casualties have been reported, suggesting limited immediate human impact despite damage to logistics-related infrastructure.

6 April 2026

Open-source reporting indicates a large-scale UAV strike targeting the port of Novorossiysk, though precise timing and impact points remain unverified. Reported targets include the Russian frigate Admiral Makarov and the Sheskharis oil terminal, with claims of significant damage to both military and energy infrastructure assets. Russian authorities state that approximately 150 drones were intercepted over a three-hour period, suggesting a high-volume attack likely intended to overwhelm air defenses and disrupt critical Black Sea logistics and export capacity.

6 April 2026

Ukrainian intelligence reports a successful drone strike against the Ro-Ro ferry Slavyanin, assessed to be the last operational vessel supporting logistics across the Kerch Strait. The platform, capable of transporting heavy military cargo including vehicles, fuel, and munitions, has been a recurring target in Ukraine’s effort to degrade Russian sustenance routes to Crimea. Following an earlier strike that forced repairs, Ukraine now claims the vessel has been rendered fully inoperable.

Threat Outlook

Region

Threat Level

Assessment

Indian Ocean

Very High

As the security situation in Iran deteriorated throughout the week, shipping faces extremely high threats of military strikes.

Europe (Black Sea)

High

War-time spillover is a frequent and severe risk to shipping, as naval assets and commercial infrastructure are the main targets

Southeast Asia

Low

Low-level crime, like spare engine parts theft, remains a constant risk.

Operational Guidance

Operators should:

  • Avoid high-risk areas such as the Strait of Hormuz, Persian Gulf, and Black Sea where feasible.

  • Maintain enhanced watchkeeping, especially in conflict-affected waters.

  • Monitor AIS, radar, and VHF Channel 16 for anomalies or distress calls.

  • Be alert for UAVs, USVs, and unusual vessel approaches.

  • Report suspicious activity to:

    • UKMTO

    • MSCHOA

    • IMO / IMB
