Key Incidents by Region

Northwest Indian Ocean

20 June 2026

Iranian semi-official news agencies indicate that Iranian authorities declared a COMPLETE CLOSURE of the Strait of Hormuz and strict enforcement measures across its EEZ. Iranian authorities cited “bad faith” and a breach of commitments by the US, and pointed to continued Israeli military operations in Lebanon. This culminates in an increased likelihood of SEIZURES, UAV STRIKES AND THE PLACING OF SEA MINES.

19 June 2026

The JMIC and NAVAREA IX reported that a SEA-MINE HAS BEEN CONFIRMED TO BE PRESENT in the Strait of Hormuz. All vessels in the area are advised to navigate with extreme caution.

17 June 2026

The Fareeda 5 transmitted a distress alert after a SUSPECTED PIRACY INCIDENT in the Western Indian Ocean. The Indian Navy frigate INS Trikand responded to the scene, ensuring the safety of the ship and conducted a swift operational response.

Europe

20 June 2026

Ukraine launched a UAV ATTACK on the port of Kerch, targeting Russian military logistics and energy infrastructure. EXPLOSIONS and LARGE FIRES were confirmed via satellite data at the AEGAZ-Terminal and the TES-Terminal-1 oil depot. These terminals sit in close range from the Kerch Bridge that connects to the Crimea, and are crucial for operational functionality of the CrimeaCaucasus ferry crossing. DRONES ALSO HIT Military Unit 98546 in Kerch, which houses Russia’s 630 Separate Railway Track Battalion.

18 June 2026

OSINT reports indicate that Russia conducted a UAV STRIKE on two cargo vessels under the Panama and St Kitts & Nevis flags, as they were transiting along the Ukrainian coastline. ONE CREW MEMBER WAS KILLED, whilst five others were wounded. The ships resumed their journeys after the strikes according to Ukrainian authorities.

18 June 2026

Ukraine launched a DRONE STRIKE on an EquatorialGuinea-flagged tanker as it was steaming off Novorossyisk, Russia. The vessel may have been part of Russia’s shadow fleet, and subject to sanctions imposed by the EU, Switzerland, U.K., Canada, and Ukraine.

16 June 2026

Open-sources report that a Russian warship FIRED WARNING SHOTS in the vicinity of a UK registered yacht in the English Channel. The incident occured 20NM south of the Isle of Wight. The Russian vessel was identified as the frigate Admiral Grigorovich. The UK Ministry of Defence confirmed the incident and is investigating.

14 June 2026

UK armed forces SEIZED a Cameroon-flagged Russian shadow fleet oil tanker in the English Channel, in an operation that lasted SIX HOURS. The vessel began its journey earlier this month from Russia’s Ust-Luga port. The tanker is held and monitored off the south coast as investigations continue. The Royal Marines and NCA officers were supported by RAF aircrafts, HMS Sutherland, HMS Ledbury, and coordinated with French authorities.

14 June 2026

OSINT reports indicate that Turkish authorities discovered an ARMED UAV on the shoreline at Kapisuyu Beach in the Kurucaşile district of Türkiye's Bartın. Security forces EVACUATED the area and established a cordon after the drone was discovered. Specialist bomb disposal teams carried out a CONTROLLED DETONATION of the drone’s onboard munitions on scene. No injuries were reported. Turkish authorities have not identified the drone’s origin or linked it to a specific military force.

14 June 2026

OSINT reports confirm that Ukrainian Special Operations Forces (SOF) conducted a UAV STRIKE on Talman port in the Temryuk district of Russia’s Krasnodar region during the night of 13/14 June, 2026. The strike resulted in ONE FATALITY. Drone debris sparked FIRES at the facility, which is the largest liquefied hydrocarbon transshipment complex in southern Russia. Reports indicate that five fuel tanks and two oil loading stands were HIT causing fires in the terminal’s freight transport depot and storage facilities.

Threat Outlook

Region

Threat Level

Assessment

Europe

Very High

The Black Sea remains highly dangerous for commercial shipping as a target for subsea, surface and aerial drones, including in coastal areas. Vessels traversing the Baltic sea route to Russia, also seem to have elevated risk.

Gulf of Aden

High

Consistent threat from Somali PAGs and Houthi's. Suspicious approaches are regularly reported in and around the area.

Northwest Indian Ocean

Very High

The Hormuz conflict remains tense, despite diplomatic efforts. Iran's declaration of the closure of the Hormuz, and the confirmation of sea mines maintains that these waters are very high risk.

Southeast Asia

Low

Petty theft and robberies are a consistent theme in the Singapore Strait and surrounding waters.

Operational Guidance

Operators should:

  • Watch for Drones & Explosives: Maintain sharp lookouts for UAVs, USVs, and floating naval mines across the Black Sea, English Channel, and the Strait of Hormuz.

  • Anti-Piracy & Port Watches: Ensure effective hardening measures, and maintain MBP-5 readiness to deter armed boarding, and anchorage robberies.

  • Obey Chokepoint Blockades: Avoid the Strait of Hormuz due to military strikes and mines, unless coordinated with Iranian and U.S. authorities.

  • Deploy Active Deterrence: Ensure experienced Armed Security Teams (ASTs) are active and ready to use lethal force to repel small-craft and RPG attacks in the Gulf of Aden.

  • Monitor Security Broadcasts: Maintain a continuous watch on VHF Channel 16 and closely track critical UKMTO, MSCIO, JMIC, and NAVAREA updates to monitor threats.

Stopping Boardings Before They Start

Most maritime attacks succeed once criminals reach the main deck.

That’s why leading operators rent physical anti-boarding barriers:

  • No upfront CAPEX

  • Global deployment

  • Short or long-term rental

  • No vessel modification

Zero successful boardings. Ever.
