This week saw twenty-four incidents globally, including in: Black Sea, Gulf of Aden, Gulf of Oman, North America, Red Sea, Sea of Azov, and Strait of Hormuz.

BLACK SEA:
Widespread Drone, USV, and Port Strikes: Continuous UAV and USV attacks across Odesa, Chornomorsk, and Novorossiysk damaged multiple merchant ships, leaving one seafarer dead and four wounded. Ukrainian forces hit military infrastructure on the Syvash platform, while Russian strikes targeted key Ukrainian port terminals.
NORTH AMERICA:
Cyber Intrusion and Terminal Delays: A cyber attack on the North Carolina State Ports Authority caused a system-wide IT outage across Wilmington, Morehead City, and Charlotte Inland ports. Landside truck queues and processing delays resulted, though vessel operations continued manually until systems were restored.
STRAIT OF HORMUZ:
Iranian Missile Strike and Projectile Attacks: A tanker off Khasab, Oman was struck by an Iranian missile, causing a fire. Separate projectile strikes disabled a cargo vessel, and explosions near Kumzar forced a tanker to abort its transit. No casualties were reported, but authorities are investigating.
RED SEA:
Houthi USV Sinking and Missile Targeting: A Houthi USV attack off Mokha sank an Indian cargo vessel, though the crew was saved. Houthi ballistic missiles targeted Saudi oil tankers off Yanbu and Aden, alongside combined strikes on Mokha Port and a Jizan refinery.
BLACK SEA
COMBINED STRIKES/ 9th AUGUST
Russian forces executed major missile and UAV strikes against oil storage terminals across Odesa, Chornomorsk, and Pivdenne ports, causing widespread depot fires and twelve injuries. No direct damage to merchant vessels was reported.
COMBINED STRIKE/ 8th AUGUST
Ukrainian forces conducted a combined drone and USV attack on Russian military equipment on the Syvash offshore platform. Multiple sea and aerial drones detonated on deck, destroying equipment used to guide strikes against southern Ukraine.
UAV ATTACK/ 8th AUGUST
Russian UAVs targeted two merchant vessels delivering cargo in Ukrainian territorial waters south and east of Odesa. Russian authorities claimed both ships were transporting military cargo, though no casualties were reported
UAV STRIKE/ 7th AUGUST
A Ukrainian UAV struck a merchant vessel off Gelendzhik, Russia, igniting a fire in its superstructure. The vessel was hit a second time during an air raid the following day, sustaining further structural damage.

A Russian UAV hit a bulk carrier during unloading operations at Yuzhny Port, Ukraine. Russian sources claimed the vessel carried military cargo, but no injuries or environmental damage occurred.
COMBINED STRIKE/ 4th AUGUST
Russian forces conducted a combined air-launched missile and UAV attack on port terminal facilities in Chornomorsk, Ukraine. Extent of port damage was undisclosed, and commercial ships were withholding AIS signals.
UAV STRIKE/ 3rd AUGUST
Russian UAVs targeted two general cargo vessels operating south of Odesa Port, Ukraine. Russian authorities claimed both vessels were delivering military equipment, though damage severity was undisclosed.

Coordinated Russian Shahed drone strikes over August 2–3 damaged five dry cargo and bulk carrier vessels berthed at Mykolaiv Port, Ukraine, directly impacting accommodation blocks and bridge fronts.
RED SEA
COMBINED STRIKES/ 9th AUGUST
Houthi forces launched combined ballistic missiles and UAVs targeting military infrastructure at Mokha Port, Yemen, causing heavy smoke and destruction. Simultaneously, a Houthi UAV hit the ARAMCO oil refinery in Jizan, Saudi Arabia, causing a fire.
WBIED INTERCEPTION/ 7th AUGUST
Yemeni naval forces intercepted and destroyed a highspeed, explosive-laden Houthi boat off Mocha, Yemen. The WBIED was traveling toward a commercial oil tanker before it was successfully neutralized.
MISSILE ATTACK/ 5th AUGUST
Houthi forces launched multiple ballistic missiles targeting a Saudi-flagged tanker operating off Yanbu, Saudi Arabia. The vessel was not broadcasting AIS signals at the time, and no casualties or damage were reported.
NEAR MISS/ 5th AUGUST
A Saudi-owned tanker reported a close-proximity explosion 95NM southeast of Aden after being targeted by a Houthi ballistic missile. The vessel altered course to the northwest, and all crew were reported safe.
USV ATTACK/ 4th AUGUST
A Houthi uncrewed surface vessel (USV) attacked an Indian-flagged cargo ship 9NM southwest of Mokha, Yemen. The resulting fire caused the ship to capsize and sink, though all crew were rescued by local authorities.
STRAIT OF HORMUZ
MISSILE STRIKE /8th AUGUST
An Iranian missile targeted a commercial tanker 18NM east of Khasab, Oman, causing an onboard fire. The crew successfully extinguished the blaze, and the vessel and crew were reported safe without environmental damage.
NEAR MISS / 5th AUGUST
Two loud explosions near a tanker 9NM southeast of Kumzar, Oman, forced the master to abort its planned transit. The vessel safely altered course and entered a drifting position in UAE waters.
PROJECTILE ATTACK/ 3rd AUGUST
An unknown projectile struck a commercial cargo vessel 20NM northeast of Khasab, Oman. The vessel broadcast distress calls on VHF Channel 16 reporting a complete blackout and requiring assistance.
NORTH AMERICA
CYBER ATTACK/ 4th AUGUST
A cyber intrusion disabled core IT networks across North Carolina state ports. The outage impacted Wilmington, Morehead City, and Charlotte inland terminals, forcing manual gate processing and landside logistics delays.
Operational Guidance
Operators should:
Watch for Air & Sea Projectiles: Maintain sharp lookouts for long-range UAVs and projectiles across the Black Sea, Sea of Azov, and Strait of Hormuz.
Comply with Active Warnings: Maintain high vigilance in high-risk zones. Comply with UKMTO/MSCIO warnings and report incidents immediately.
Mitigate Global Port and Voyage Risks: Enforce anti-boarding watches, secure digital systems against cyber threats, and prepare manual fallbacks.
Maintain Communication Channels: Keep communication systems fully functional in high-risk areas, considering AIS suppression where advised.
Monitor Urgent Military Broadcasts: Maintain constant watch on VHF Channel 16 for navigation bans and track emergency UKMTO updates.
